The first obstacle has been cleared

If you follow me on Facebook, you'll have seen a recent video I posted. I've finally done it, I've written my first novel. This has been the most challenging yet rewarding thing I've ever done in my life.

I can't tell you guys the struggle this project has been. There were so many times that I wanted to quit, and in fact I had stepped away from the keyboard on more than one occasion, thinking that I didn't have what it takes. The encouragement of my beta readers helped me press on, and their suggestions really helped me polish the story into something I'm proud of.

This week I'm beginning my final read-through, just to make sure I didn't miss anything. From there comes the next big challenge, quite possibly the greatest challenge of this crazy dream I'm chasing; getting representation from a literary agent. One step at a time.

I think fans of adult fantasy are really going to like my book. By epic fantasy standards it's a bit on the short end, coming in at under 210,000 words. My goal was to tell a big story in a lean package. As a debut author, publishing houses are less likely to take a chance on a book that's extremely long anyways, which is another reason I decided on the length. But it's paced well and I was careful to not let it drag, my goal being for you to be physically unable to put the book down until you find out what happens next. For the sequels, I plan on going bigger in scope and scale. And oh, do I ever have ideas.
